Civic Commons Learning Studio #3: The Initial Lessons

Project teams from the five Reimagining the Civic Commons demonstration cities convened for a third time in Akron to continue sharing knowledge and the challenges of their work. Teams experienced the Akron Civic Commons sites by foot, bike and kayak and broke bread with residents of Summit Lake at a 200 Plates dinner held in collaboration with The League of Creative Interventionists. The second day of the studio was kicked off by New York City Parks Commissioner Mitch Silver, who gave an inspired presentation stressing the importance of quality, not just proximity, when it comes to equity in parks and public places, and the need to design these shared assets in a seamless manner that meets the needs of today – and tomorrow. Materials from the studio include the agenda and presentation slides.
