Civic engagement is a core outcome of Reimagining the Civic Commons. In today’s environment of declining trust and a threatened democracy, reviving local public life is more important than ever. Public spaces can be critical components in our collective work to strengthen communities and support a more resilient democracy.
A thriving culture of civic engagement is associated with a number of benefits, from improved health outcomes to stronger local economies to lower rates of crime. This publication illustrates the value of civic engagement and provides seven strategies cities can use to foster this key outcome.
