Our experience in St. Paul, Minnesota for a Civic Commons Learning Journey was an exploration of how local leaders are investing in the public realm and revitalizing communities, while honoring the relationships between cultural, indigenous and historical legacies.
The organizations that we visited in Rondo, Frogtown and the East Side revealed how commitment to civic values, investment in local talent and a pursuit of excellence can result in a robust social infrastructure. We saw how public space, storytelling and family roots can serve as powerful tools for connection and progress, and came away inspired by the lessons to bring back to our cities.
