A New Way of Working

-
Reimagining the Civic Commons is a national initiative to foster engagement, equity, environmental sustainability and economic development in cities through the revitalization and connection of public places. Creating renewed public places means reimagining not just the places themselves, but how communities design, manage and operate public assets. Through our work in cities across the country, we have developed a a set of nine core principles to guide everyone working on an improved civic commons.
-
For each principle, we’ve identified a project underway that exemplifies some aspect of this new approach to civic investment. Crafted in partnership with The Aspen Institute’s Center for Urban Innovation, we offer these examples to show how this new way of working can help communities get the most from their civic assets.
